Movie review of "High Tension"

"High Tension"
Directed by Alexandre Aja, 2003.
Original French Language Director's Cut.

Okay, 'Marie and 'Alexia' are two French birds who take a trip to Alexia's parents secluded country farmhouse searching for peaceful solitude so they can study for college exams. Not so! It doesn't take long after the cordial character introductions for the bloodshed to begin in buckets when the necessary, stereo-typed stranger turns up at the front door!

Directed with stylish European panache and employing competent cinematography the director succeeds in building a tangible tension with the astute use of obtuse camera angles and extreme close-ups in critical but cliched scenes. Coupled with a crisp and sharp script delivered by great performances from the two main actresses the picture moves along at a pace that keeps the viewers attention to the very end!

I wouldn't say it's a must see, but I did enjoy this film.

Tonight I watching "Time of the Wolf," by Michael Haneke.

I'll post a review next week.
