Movie Review of 'Cowards Bend The Knee."
You have to be a fan of Canadian director Guy Maddin to even contemplate watching this picture!
I'm lucky to own most of his movies in my DVD collection, but if your thinking of getting into this guy's work I would suggest watching "The Saddest Music In The World" first as a taster before dipping into his other works!
Filmed in silent black & white and originally adapted from what I gather is a ten-part 'peephole' short film, this is a creative, but painfully sincere and autobiographical feature that really leaves no stone unturned about Maddin's life, loves and more importantly his relationship with his father.
To be honest I couldn't take my eyes of the screen! The feature is fast paced, infused with quirky camera compositions, stunning acting and a subtle beauty that at times took my breath away!
I'm not going to add anything more! Rent the fucking movie!
Purely for the reason that if your a movie lover/buff then you would have already have seen this picture or at least heard comments about it. So I say again - rent the fucking picture!
Lastly I would love to see Guy Maddin do a color picture, with a shit cast, but with a plot that's all of his own that would throw major curves into the "Hollywood" mainstream production line that already includes Jim Jarmusch to name a few of my favorite directors that have turned into worms!
Why not?! This guy (no pun intended!) has more talent than any director currently working!
He is original, pulls no punches and his honesty and integrity toward making a motion picture is unsurpassed.
As long at the cast doesn't include the following:- Catherine Zeta-Jones, Julia Roberts, Michael Douglas or Harrison Ford!
To name just a few - he could be in good shape!
Mmm,... thinking about it,... NO, stay where you are Mr. Maddin I'm enjoying the ride!
Thank you!

It's nice to know that there are some Canadian movie makers getting acknowledgement and appreciation in their respective field. Canadian films have always been in the background of the industry but perhaps that is changing.
