Sundance Film festival 2006.

This was the opening weekend of the 22nd "Sundance Film festival", and the following films are the one's that have caught my eye so far!

"The Hawk Is Dying" - this feature stars one of my favorite actors Paul Giamatti. Please give this talented and versatile performer a leading role in a classy movie to cement his obvious talent as a character actor with panache!

Giamatti co-stars with Michael Pitt (whom I loved in his portrayal as "Blake" in Gus Van Sant's recent picture "Last Days") and Michelle Williams in what Weitzman calls a "small picture about the daily trails of a hapless man."

The next feature is titled "Man Push Cart."

We've all seen these chaps peddling their fare on most corners of NYC and of course there is a tale behind each food cart vendor! Ahmad, an immigrant from Pakistan serves his morning coffee to all the busy CEO's, and other executives without fail every day but this story seems to give us an insight of Ahmad's life before and after he serves the more fortunate folk!

"The Science of Sleep."

Written by "Michel Gondry" one of the most exciting and original writers penning scripts today.
His latest piece involves a loner getting lost and out of direction within his own dreams!
Enough said! From the writer that graced us with the lyrical masterpiece "Eternal sunshine of the Spotless Mind" I don't need any more details to go and buy a ticket!

"Sherrybaby."

Starring one of cinemas most talented and sexy actress's Maggie Gyllenhaal. She's gorgeous!
In this movie, the sister of you-know-who apparently delivers a powerful performance as an ex-convict trying to go straight but finding more troubles follow her new found freedom.

"Thank You for Smoking."

Aaron Eckhart ("In The Company of Men") plays a tobacco salesman trying to impart the meaning and importance of ethics to his son. Hailed as a winner at the Toronto Film Festival this adaptation of Christopher Buckley's novel looks good, especially with Eckhart in a lead role as his comic timing as an actor is sublime!

Well, so far (!), that's the films I'm more than interested in watching or getting on DVD later this year!

Although in general Sundance offers between 150-200 new independent movies, so I'll probably update this list in the next week or so!
